The Taiwan wide-tailed butterfly is a large butterfly with a wing span of about 90-120mm. The ground color of the front wing is dark brown, with large white stripes near the middle chamber of the back wing, and a row of red chord-shaped stripes on the outer edge. The female butterfly is larger than the male butterfly, and the caudate protrusion is particularly wide, and there are two tail veins running through it, which is its distinctive feature. It is mainly distributed in the mountainous areas with an altitude of 1000 to 2000 meters in the north-central part of Taiwan. It likes to move in the sunburst and lays its eggs on sassafras trees. The adults usually appear between May and August each year, fly slowly, and often glide. It is listed as a protected species and is known as the "dream butterfly.

Larvae mainly feed on plants of the Malus genus, while adults prefer to feed on nectar.
